Join us for an evening of music to raise funds to provide CSA students with the exceptional arts programming they deserve!
New York City Charter School of the Arts co-founder, Artistic Director and piano teacher Dr. Geoffrey Kiorpes (Dr. K) will present a benefit piano recital of 20th Century African-American composers at New York City's Beit Simchat Synagogue on April 4th at 7:00pm.
The evening will celebrate African-American composers of the 20th century with a program of works from Florence Price, Nathaniel Dett, William Grant Still, George Walker and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor.
Dr. K presents this evening after researching the lives and works of these underrepresented composers, as well as the impact of their stories and how the current state of the world calls for a reintroduction of their work as master artists. Dr. K will present performances in his hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina at Bennett College, where Natheniel Dett was a professor, as well as Rutgers University where George Walker taught for much of his career.
The NYC recital will serve as a fundraiser for City School of the Arts to enhance arts programming by providing funding for the refurbishment of our piano lab, the ongoing investment of producing an annual, all-school musical and necessary supplies for our core-arts curriculum. A minimum $20 donation is required to reserve a seat at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah, 130 W 30th Street.
We invite you to give in support of CSA! The event will also be live-streamed for patrons who are unable to attend in person.
