We define Thrive with an acronym: Togetherness, Health, Ritual, Identity, Voice and Empowerment. Using these lenses, we work in weekly whole-school gatherings and daily small advisory groups called “Semi-Circle” to build a positive school culture and support socio-emotional learning.

Students use mindfulness and other creative practices to enhance focus, improve academic performance, manage stress, develop empathy and navigate difference with resilience and creativity.

Our socio-emotional work also takes place off-site through our partnership with Camp Vacamas, a year-round wilderness camp an hour from the city. Each student will attend several 3-day overnight camp experiences over the course of the year. Wilderness learning has been shown to be a powerful tool to enhance engagement, fight childhood obesity, reduce bullying and restore children’s innate sense of wonder and belonging.
